LUXURY BARN CONVERSION

The corrugated sheeted barn is inseparable from the rural landscape. It is therefore that the client decided to refurbish an existing barn on their farm, into a luxury weekend house for their family and friends.

Seeing that it is an existing structure, and not ideally orientated, extra climate control measures had to be taken. Reflective glass is used to limit the heat gain from the harsh Eastern Cape sun, as well as cavity walls and insulating cladding on the inside of the house.

Double volume spaces, sufficient cross ventilation and a timber lattice overhang on the Western side of the building also contributes to keep the house cooler during the summer.
